Dunia Support FAQs

1. Why should I support Dunia?

Dunia is a nonprofit, independent investigative journalism network that does not rely on advertising or funding from governments or corporations. Long-term reporting on power structures, environmental destruction, and human rights issues across Asia requires stable and independent funding. Supporting Dunia is the most direct way to ensure we can investigate and report without external pressure.

2. How is Dunia different from mainstream media?

Rather than competing for speed or clicks, Dunia focuses on in-depth reporting on structural issues that cross national borders. We cover power, capital, and environmental issues across Asia—topics often underreported in Korean media—through on-the-ground reporting and cross-border collaboration. As a nonprofit organization, Dunia prioritizes the public interest over profit.

3. What do supporters receive?

Supporters receive the following benefits:

  • Supporter-only newsletters and briefings
  • Behind-the-scenes insights and reporting context not fully covered in articles
  • Priority invitations to offline events, talks, and workshops
  • Annual reports on Dunia’s activities and special reports

Above all, the greatest benefit is being part of sustaining independent investigative journalism.

4. Can I read Dunia’s articles without being a supporter?

Yes. Dunia’s main articles are accessible to everyone. However, some in-depth content, archives, and supporter-only materials may be offered first or exclusively to supporters. This is not about restricting information, but about maintaining a sustainable model for independent reporting.

5. Are Dunia newsletters only available to supporters?

No. Some newsletters are open to free subscribers. Supporters, however, receive exclusive content that includes deeper analysis, internal briefings, and additional reporting context.

6. How are support funds used?

Support funds are primarily used for:

  • On-the-ground reporting and travel across Asia
  • Collaboration with local journalists, researchers, and translators
  • Data analysis and access to research materials
  • Reporter safety and security
  • Platform operations and essential staffing costs

7. What is the difference between monthly and one-time support?

  • Monthly support: A recurring contribution that provides crucial stability for long-term reporting and operations.
  • One-time support (coming soon): A single contribution that allows you to support Dunia at a specific moment or for a particular project.

The one-time support option is currently under preparation. Any form of support is deeply appreciated.

8. Can I change or cancel my support?

Yes. You can change or cancel your support at any time. Decisions about support are entirely up to the supporter’s circumstances and judgment. Dunia does not view support as an obligation or burden.

9. Can organizations or teams support Dunia?

Yes. We welcome support and collaboration from organizations, including media outlets, civil society groups, research institutions, and companies. Team-based support or tailored partnerships can be arranged through direct inquiry.

10. Are donation receipts available for Dunia support?

Not yet, but this is planned for the future. To issue tax-deductible donation receipts, Dunia must be registered as a nonprofit public-interest organization. Currently, Dunia operates as an unincorporated association, so donation receipts cannot yet be issued. We are working toward nonprofit registration so that donation receipts can be provided as soon as possible.
